Piedmont Tour 2012 – Everything Alba, Barolo & More!

We had a fantastic visit to the town of Alba, one of the very well known regions in Piedmont that produces known wine grapes like Barbera, Dolcetto & Nebbiolo.  Alba, known for its towers that nobility once used for protection and living quarters, is a vibrant place that really comes alive during market day!  We were fortunate to visit the town during this time, and it was a culinary dream with vendors lining the streets with giant fresh porcini mushrooms, cheeses of all kinds including regional gorgonzola dolci, pastas including the agnolotti, a small squared shaped pasta that is pinched...

Ca’Sebastiano, what a place!

Left Torino today and hopped on the train to Vercelli, where a driver picked me up and took me to the first property of the tour, Ca'Sebastiano. A gorgeous property, very secluded and tucked into the foothills, near a castle with amazing peace and quiet. The property has a wine bar, spa, restaurant, pool... full service with class in a laid back, Italian countryside charm. On the drive here in the lowlands were farms growing rice... the best variety used to make high quality risotto and as an ingredient in other food stuffs. The hills of Asti and Monferrato gradually picked up as we got closer...

Greetings from Torino!!

WOW what a place! Torino is a wonderful city, and reminds me of the Northwest... flanked by the Alps, the city has beautiful rivers and forest which surround the city centre. Drier than Western Washington, and yet has a nice evergreen feel... similair to the Cashmere/Leavenworth area... they have no problem growing and ripening wine grapes here, and I've tasted some fantastic whites from Arneis to some truly solid house wines which are mostly Dolcetto and Barbera. Torino was founded in the 3rd century B.C. and of course conquered by the Romans. The Savoys made it their capital in 1574... most...
